This cartoon is a response to the often-quoted notion that farm animals 'give' their lives for us. But the truth of the matter is that farm animals feel fear and pain in just the same way we do - and because of this will do anything to avoid being slaughtered (again, just like we would). To combat this, the industry has a dazzling array of devices created purely to restrain animals or to force them into places they don't want to go, and so claiming these animals in any way 'give' their lives is about as dishonest a claim as you could make. Animals never give their lives to us, we simply take them at will.
Below are some videos of animals being forced to their deaths, desperately trying to avoid being killed, or being restrained in such a way that makes escape impossible. As you watch try and ask yourself, if you were in as vulnerable a position as these animals would you consider what was happening to be fair? Would the fact that others want you dead mean you were giving your life for them? Or would you, just like the animals, do anything you could to avoid being sent to a needless death?
